Stallion Inspections:

All stallions to be bred must be entered in the Stallion division of the Studbook. Consistent with international selection procedures, approval includes: pedigree requirements, conformation inspection, approved stallion performance testing.

Eligible stallions include:

• All tested stallions of recognized Warmblood breeding.

• CWHBA registered, licensed & tested stallions.

• A limited number of stallions having desirable pedigree or performance records, i.e. racing Thoroughbreds.

• Warmblood stallions which have significant results in sport competition.

The CWHBA has a two step approval system involving conformation and performance.

STEP ONE: CWHBA Stallion Licensing inspection

Eligible stallions are examined at 2.5 years and older in hand on a triangle and free in an arena with a jumping chute.

Specific requirements for the Jumping Chute can be found attached, including a diagram and distances.

Criteria for Licensing are listed as links below.

A DNA profile must be supplied; If no DNA profile is available, attach DNA Application and fee + GST/HST with hair sample - A license is valid for 2 years.

- ** Within 2 years the stallion must then complete the 2nd phase, which is the performance aspect of the approval.
- If, for any reason, a stallion is not able to complete the performance aspect of the approval process within the time alloted, the owner must apply in writing to the Stud Book Committee prior to the October 30th verification date and will be required to pay a fee (as prescribed by the association) to extend his license.

STEP TWO: Performance Requirements
The performance requirements are defined in the Stud Book Regulations as follows:
"d) which fulfill one of the following performance requirements;

1. Have a total result of not less than 70 index in the test for suitability as a riding horse at a testing establishment for stallion performance which has been sanctioned by the Board, or

2. Successfully completing the short format SPT will grant a provisional Approval for the stallion. The stallion must then complete the competition requirements within 2 years of the test or return for a second short format SPT to achieve lifetime approval, or

3. Stallions that have passed a Licensing may pursue Lifetime Approved through sport by meeting the following discipline criteria;
• Dressage: have achieved 5 scores of 65% or greater in Prix St George dressage competition, under minimum 3 different juries.
• Jumper: have 5 results in the top 8 in National Open Jumper competition
• Eventing: have 3 times in the top ten in Concour Complete International Two Star competition (specify number penalty points)
• Hunter: have won 3 Hunter Championships at a minimum height of 3ft 6in, or 5 results in the top 8 at a 3ft 6in hunter Derby.

All competition results must be submitted from Gold or higher level competitions or other equivalent competition.

For Approved Riding Horse Tests please contact the Office. CWHBA hosts their own Short Test.

LIFETIME APPROVAL FOR AGED AND INJURED STALLIONS
Stallions that have passed a Licensing but are unable to meet the performance requirements outlined above may be granted a Lifetime Approval through their progeny. This is achieved by the evaluation of the conformation (inspection) and/or competition success of 15 or more of their progeny. If it is ascertained by the Judging Commission for Stallions that the progeny are a significant improvement over their dams and that they demonstrate significant competition success to be of breeding merit the stallion may be approved by the Studbook Committee.

The stallion owner is responsible for submitting competition and/or inspection results for at least 15 progeny for review. This can be done over multiple years, with an annual application for License extension.

Important Notes:

For Stallion Studbook Entry with Canadian Warmblood Breeders Association, you must attach a copy of both sides of the horse's original registration certificate, showing current ownership of the horse in the name of the applicant. **Foreign papers must have translation included, especially of breeder, markings, etc.

A DNA profile is required; If no DNA profile available, attach hair sample with DNA Application and fee (including applicable GST/HST).

** It is not sufficient to provide merely a file number with a foreign Laboratory. The actual profile must be provided to CWHBA. If CWHBA has to source a foreign DNA profile, a fee will apply.

Be sure to attach any previous test and/or inspection results.
